West Bohemia
Loket
A Gothic jewel on the Ohře river
All destinations
Loket rises like a stone ship from a loop of the Ohře river, its grey Gothic castle perched on a granite cliff above the water. Founded in the thirteenth century, the castle once guarded the Czech border and welcomed a young Goethe on his wanderings through the spa country. Below it, the snug medieval square, the Baroque Holy Trinity column and the old town walls preserve the feel of a small Bohemian stronghold. The porcelain museum, the marked trails along the river and the forests of the Slavkov Highlands make Loket a short, perfect detour from Karlovy Vary.
